WHAT IS LAND CLEARING?
Land clearing is the process of removing trees, stumps, heavy brush, and other material from a piece of property to prepare it for a new use. This could mean prepping a lot for construction, clearing wooded acreage for a pasture, opening up a road or access path, or simply reclaiming land that has become completely overgrown.
At Hitson Custom Works, we use our excavator and skid steer to take on clearing jobs that require more than what a forestry mulcher can handle on its own. For heavier timber or land with substantial trees that need to come out by the root, we bring the right equipment for the job.
WHEN DO YOU NEED LAND CLEARING?
Land clearing is typically the right call when you’re dealing with large trees that need to come out completely, property that’s been neglected for many years and has heavy growth, a site that needs to be completely cleared before construction begins, or land where the material is too heavy for a forestry mulcher to handle efficiently on its own.

HOW WE APPROACH IT
We come to the property with the excavator and assess what needs to come out and how. Depending on the scope of the job, we may work in sections — removing the larger material first and then following up with mulching to handle the remaining brush and smaller growth. We’ll talk through the plan with you before we start so there are no surprises.
We take care to work methodically and minimize impact on areas you want to preserve. If there are trees you want to keep, a boundary you want to maintain, or specific areas to avoid, we factor all of that in from the start.

Once the heavy material is out, many property owners follow up with grading or site work to prepare the ground for construction, a driveway, or a building pad. Forestry mulching is also commonly combined with land clearing — the excavator removes the large trees, and then the mulcher cleans up the remaining brush and stumps to leave a finished, usable surface.

What’s the difference between land clearing and forestry mulching?
Land clearing typically involves removing trees and heavy material using an excavator — the trees and stumps come out of the ground and either stay on site in piles or get removed. Forestry mulching grinds everything in place into a fine mulch that stays on the ground. For lighter brush and smaller trees, mulching is usually faster and cleaner. For larger trees and heavier material, land clearing is often the right first step.
How do you handle the debris after clearing?
That depends on what you’d like. We can pile material on the property for burning later, or we can discuss other options based on the scope of the job. We’ll go over that with you before we start so we’re on the same page about how the site will look when we’re done.
Can you clear land for a new house or building?
Yes. Site clearing for new construction is one of the services we offer. We can remove the trees and heavy material to get the lot ready for the next phase of work.
How long does land clearing take?
Every job is different. A smaller lot might take a day. Heavily wooded acreage could take several. We’ll give you a realistic timeline when we come look at the property before any work starts.
Is there a minimum acreage you’ll work on?
