WHAT WE DO
Excavation is the process of digging, moving, and reshaping earth to accomplish a specific purpose below the surface. At Hitson Custom Works, we use our John Deere excavator for digging work that goes beyond what clearing or grading involves. The two most common excavation services we provide are trenching and pond construction.
TRENCHING
Trenching is one of the most practical excavation services for rural and residential properties. If you need utility lines run, drainage systems installed, or irrigation lines placed, that work requires a trench. Rather than digging by hand or renting equipment, we handle it with the excavator quickly and accurately.
Trenching is also useful for setting fence posts along longer runs, installing culverts, and any situation where a clean, precise channel needs to be dug through the ground.
POND CONSTRUCTION
Adding a pond to your property is a significant project, but it can also add a lot of value — both practically and aesthetically. Whether you’re looking for a fishing pond, a water source for livestock, or a decorative water feature, the process starts with the right excavation work.
We have experience with pond construction and can dig out the basin to the dimensions you need. Every property and pond design is different, so we’ll talk through what you have in mind before the work starts.
PAIR THIS SERVICE WITH
Excavation is frequently done alongside grading and site work. If you’re preparing a building site, we may be trenching for utilities at the same phase we’re doing the final grading work. Pond construction is often paired with land clearing or forestry mulching — opening up the area around the pond site before the digging begins makes the whole project go more smoothly.
SERVING DUBLIN AND MIDDLE GEORGIA
We provide excavation services in Dublin, GA and throughout Middle Georgia. Whether you need a drainage trench or a new pond dug on your property, reach out and we’ll come take a look.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS — EXCAVATION
Can you trench for utilities on my rural property?
Yes, trenching for utilities is one of our common excavation jobs. We’ll need to know the depth and length of the trench and what it’s going to carry so we can prepare the right approach.
How big of a pond can you build?
That depends on the scope of the project and your property. Pond size is really about what you want to use it for and what the land allows. We’ll come look at the site and give you a realistic picture of what’s possible and what’s involved.
Do I need to call 811 before you dig?
Yes, absolutely. Before any excavation work begins, Georgia law requires that you call 811 to have underground utilities marked. We always recommend this to our customers before we start any digging work. It’s free and it protects everyone on the job site.
How long does pond excavation take?
It varies significantly based on the size of the pond and the type of soil. A small pond on accessible, workable ground can sometimes be done in a day or two. Larger projects take longer. We’ll give you a time estimate once we see the property and understand the design.
Can you also do the land clearing around the pond site?
Yes. We can handle the clearing around the area before digging begins, which makes the excavation work go faster and gives you a cleaner end result. Combining clearing and excavation in one project is something we do regularly.
